Train derailment in Carroll County shakes up neighbors

by | Feb 5, 2014 | Train Accidents

It is easy to imagine the destruction a train accident can cause. Trains are huge machines that can reach high speeds. If one derails or crashes into another vehicle, the damage can be immense. This possibility was on the minds of many Carroll County residents recently after a frightening train crash.

Less than two weeks ago, residents were jerked away in the early morning by a loud crashing sound. A train had derailed from the tracks that run alongside Highway 79. Although it is not clear what caused the train to derail, fortunately, no one was injured. Residents, however, still felt unsettled.

Several people have homes very close to the tracks. Had the train derailed just a few seconds later, it could easily have caused much worse damage. One Carroll County resident said her bedroom is in the front of her home, which faces the tracks. The thought of what could have been made her uneasy.

As authorities investigate what may have caused this train accident, it will be interesting to see what they determine. An accident like this one could easily have caused serious injuries to train workers or local residents. Hopefully after determining a cause, the train company will be able to find a way to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.

Should a person ever become injured in a train accident like this one, however, it is important to know that there are ways to obtain compensation for injuries. With the help of a personal injury attorney, it may be possible to hold a negligent train company or operator accountable.
