How to spot a reckless driver

by | Oct 7, 2020 | Car Accidents

The morning commute to work, a quick run to the grocery store, or even a trip to visit family can all turn deadly at the hands of a reckless or negligent driver. There is little a safe driver can do to change someone’s habits while driving, but it is possible to learn how to avoid reckless drivers to stay safe.

Every year, distracted driving alone kills thousands of people. The preventative measures a safe driver takes can make the difference between getting to your destination safely or not. So what are the signs of a reckless or negligent driver?

Swerving

When a driver is not paying attention to the road or does not have their hands on the wheel, they may begin to drift into other lanes. Swerving may also indicate that a driver is under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Road rage

When a reckless driver becomes blinded by rage towards others around them. When someone is so focused on their anger, they may not be able to pay attention to anyone around them. A driver blaring their car horn or waving their arms wildly are typical signs that someone is overcome by road rage.

Erratic speeding

Drivers who are not attentive to what they are doing behind the wheel their speed can begin to either slow down or accelerate due to not paying attention to what they are doing. This can become especially dangerous when a driver realizes their mistake and overcorrects their actions. These overcorrections can result in a driver losing control of their vehicle.

Do not take any chances

You can keep a sharp eye out to spot potential threats to you and others on the road. If you spot a driver engaging in any reckless behavior, play it safe, and slowly allow them to pull ahead of you. Speeding past a reckless driver or trying to correct their behavior only risks causing an accident.
