Tennessee soldier mistaken for deer left to die after hit and run

by | Dec 21, 2013 | Car Accidents

A tragic hit-and-run accident could turn into a wrongful death lawsuit if the victim’s family decides to take legal action against the man responsible for striking their loved one while he walked along Tylertown Road in Clarksville, Tennessee. It’s an action that many of our readers would probably take as well, especially after considering the events that led up to the victim’s death.

According to police, both the 21-year-old victim, who was a solider in the army, and another solider had been drinking at an Irish pub in town when the 21-year-old decided to leave the bar on foot. Instead of get a sober ride, the other soldier at the bar, a 26-year-old man, decided to get into his Ford Expedition and drive. While travelling along Tylertown Road, he struck the 21-year-old soldier and continued to drive. When confronted by police nearly five hours later regarding the accident, the 26-year-old says that he thought he had hit a deer and that was why he had not stopped or reported the accident.

The 21-year-old victim’s body was discovered by another pedestrian nearly three hours later but unfortunately the man’s injuries were too severe and he died as a result.

Although the 26-year-old responsible for the fatal hit-and-run accident has been charged with driving on a suspended license, driving under the influence, vehicular homicide and failing to report an accident, this may not be enough justice for the victim’s family. As we mentioned before, they may want to seek compensation from the driver for his clearly negligent actions. In the end, this could give them the closure they need to move on from an accident that could have easily been prevented.
