Grandfather dies in motorcycle accident in Tennessee

by | Sep 19, 2014 | Car Accidents

On the afternoon of Sept. 9, a mid-South grandfather was riding his Harley home from work on Shelby Drive in Memphis. A car that was turning left pulled out in front of him at the corner of Swinnea and Shelby, allegedly causing the motorcycle to crash.

According to doctors, his shoulder and pelvis were shattered. In addition, he had other broken bones and uncontrollable bleeding in his brain, according to an interview with the man’s 15-year-old grandson. The longtime Navy veteran was pronounced dead later at the hospital.

It was the fifth DUI charge for the driver of the other vehicle, according to court records. He was taken into custody and charged with driving under the influence and other charges, including driving on a revoked license at the time of the accident. His driver’s license was revoked in October 2007 following his fourth DUI. He is currently scheduled for two court dates, according to the court dockets. The first was scheduled for Sept. 11 for the current charges, and the second is at the end of September for an April arrest for driving on a revoked license. Bond was set at $30,000.

When a loved one is lost to an accident, especially one that involves a driver facing criminal charges, the family could find themselves suffering a great deal from the sudden loss. They could make the decision to seek compensation to help them to cope. If they receive financial compensation, it could help cover their loved one’s medical bills, final expenses and possibly loss of income if the deceased was the family’s primary source of support.
