Tennessee crash may have been caused by drunk driver

by | Nov 18, 2014 | Car Accidents

A 41-year-old West Virginia man who was responsible for a crash that injured two Tennessee women is being charged by police with DUI and aggravated assault. The accident occurred around 10:30 p.m. on Nov. 7 at the intersection of West State Street and Route 126 in Bristol.

According to the Bristol Tennessee Police Department, the accident occurred when the 41-year-old man failed to stop his Chevrolet Avalanche as it was approaching a traffic light. It struck the rear of a Toyota Sequoia causing the vehicle to catch fire. The two women in the Toyota, a 37-year-old Bristol woman and a 28-year-old Bluff City woman, were injured in the crash. Their condition was not released.

Investigators from the city’s FIRST team suspect alcohol or drugs played a part in the man’s inability to stop at the intersection. As of Nov. 8, the investigation was still ongoing.

In a situation such as this, where drugs or alcohol are suspected of playing a role in the crash, it is possible the driver who is responsible for the crash could be found liable for the damages. A personal injury attorney may be able to assist victims who were in injured in a car accident that happened because of another driver’s negligence. The driver at fault may be held liable for the injured victim’s medical expenses, auto repair costs and lost wages due to an inability to work.

An attorney could demonstrate fault by using evidence provided by police investigators. This evidence may include crash reconstructions, toxicology reports and witness testimonies. If the defendant is found to be at fault for the accident, then the injured victims may be able to gain recompense for their injuries.
