The Tennessee Highway Patrol reported that a traffic accident involving multiple vehicles near West Jefferson Pike on State Route 840 occurred on Dec. 11. The incident killed one driver and injured another, reportedly.
Officers indicated that a 38-year-old Nashville man was driving a Honda sedan on the highway when one of the vehicle’s tires blew out, causing the man to lose control of the car. The Honda then careened into the back of a semi-trailer, authorities reported. The force of that collision propelled the Honda across the median of the highway and into oncoming traffic.
That is where the Honda collided head-on with a pickup truck driven by a 51-year-old man. Law enforcement officers reported that the 38-year-old man driving the Honda was killed in the wreck. The 51-year-old pickup truck driver suffered injuries requiring emergency transport to a hospital. The driver of the semi-truck’, a 63-year-old man, did not report suffering any injuries.
As this case reconfirms, people may be seriously injured in car accidents. Many of these accidents are caused by the negligence of another driver. People who operate vehicles on the highways should ensure that their tires are in good condition, because a tire blowout can start a chain of events that results in a major wreck. In such a case, people injured in the wreck may hold the driver liable for the accident with a personal injury lawsuit, citing negligence. If the accident had caused the death of the negligent driver, the civil action may be brought against the negligent driver’s estate. By successfully pursuing such a lawsuit, victims may receive compensation for property losses, medical expenses, time lost from work as well as other damages.
