Suffering the unexpected deaths of family members can cause long-lasting grief and devastation. A recent Tennessee car crash occurred on a section of road that some people consider dangerous. A woman whose husband and son were involved says it is time for officials to make changes in the road so that the safety of those using the roadway will be better protected.
The recent tragedy took place on a Tuesday morning. The woman, now a widow, stated that she was concerned when she called both her husband and son on their cell phones and neither one of them responded. A while later, two state troopers arrived at her place of work to inform her of their deaths.
They had reportedly been traveling in a northbound lane when another vehicle careened across the median and struck their car head-on. The 68-year-old man and his 36-year-old stepson were both killed in the collision. The driver who appears to have caused the horrific crash also died. Reportedly, another accident resulted in multiple fatalities on the same road in 2012.
Whether Tennessee road officials will order road upgrades for potential safety reasons remains to be seen. Losing two family members in a car crash can bring sudden and long-lasting financial stress for a surviving loved one. A legal claim may be filed in civil court to seek full recovery. When the person deemed responsible for the collision has died, the claim can be filed against the decedent’s estate. Compensation awarded in a successfully litigated claim can never replace a loved one’s life; however, it can help offset the many expenses a surviving family member often faces in the aftermath of an accident.
